Jean-Efflam Bavouzet selected for this recital in Lisbon two pieces by the young Robert Schumann. The Concert without Orchestra, also known as "Grand Sonata", is perhaps the least known and less performed piano solo piece by the composer. The Toccata, in Schumann’s words at the age of 22, was "the most difficult piece ever written for piano". To this very demanding Schumann’s repertoire, Bavouzet also added the first Prokofiev’s War Sonatas.
