Composed in 1827, one year before Schubert’s death, Winterreise or winter journey is one of the most extraordinary song cycles in the history of music.
Schubert based his 24 songs cycle on the poems by Wilhelm Müller. In these songs, a traveller discusses the lost love and the harsh conditions of his uncertain journey, in a cold and nocturnal monologue, with an unbelievable dramatic strength.
