The CCB hosts along one week two of the most distinguished Portuguese percussion ambassadors: the Drumming - celebrating their 10th anniversary - and Pedro Carneiro, proposing a percussion marathon.
I. 10 YEARS OF DRUMMING
Drumming - Percussion Ensemble celebrates the 10th anniversary of its foundation during 2009. The challenge chosen by Drumming is to present their artistic path through a diversified staging of their repertoire, stressing the percussion's potentialities in the music scene.
Therefore, a major work piece will open the programme: Drumming by Steve Reich. Afterwards, the ensemble's versatility and diversity is revealed in several ways: from the educational performances through a journey to the diferent marimbas and xylophones in Estou-me a Marimbar to the ensemble's incursion into the scenic arts, with a contemporary dance performance - Open Scores - where Terry Riley's famous work, In C, will be performed in a percussive version and re-interpreted in a dance performance. Trifásico will also be featured, a performance composed by three scenic moments: the chamber opera Sol de Inverno (Winter's Sun) by David del Puerto, the intertwining between video and live music in the piece Adkom by Edmund Campion, and the musical theater by Georges Aperghis.
II. BANG, CRASH, SPLASH! PERCUSSION MARATHON
In this second edition of Bang Crash Splash! Percussion Marathon, Pedro Carneiro invited a myriad of international renowned marimba players: the japanese Kunihiko Komori, the New Zealander Jeremy Fitzsimons, as well as Miquel Bernat and Nuno Aroso - both well-known by the Lisbon audience. Together, they will celebrate marimba and world music, performing original pieces composed to a contemporary instrument, but with a millenarian origin. A journey through workshops and commented concerts by Pedro Carneiro: we will listen to solos, duos, trios, quartets, quintets. The marathon's closing concert will feature the mythic Steve Reich's Sextet.
