The first two pieces performed in this concert are masterpieces that quickly became a benchmark for other composers. They were composed in 1842, an extraordinary year regarding Schumann’s chamber music creation, including also his string quartets.
The charming 3 Romances op. 97, composed in 1849, are an oasis in the 19th century Romanticism due to the inclusion of the oboe, a “forsaken" instrument by the romantic composers and which Schumann uses in its expressive plenitude. The piece was a Christmas present for his wife Clara Schumann, eternal inspiring muse of Schumann’s universe.
