CCB Reading Room, located on the 1st Floor of the Conference Centre (Jorge de Sena room), is a newly open space, committed to literary culture, books, writers and readers.
General use conditions and consultation:
a) 16 years and up, owners of the reader card issued by the Reading Room services, have access to the library catalogue and Internet point.
b) The reader card is personal and intransmissible, and may be acquired through a registration form at the Reading Room reception. One of the following identification documents is required: identity card; birth certificate; driving license.
c) Registration is free, valid for one year and automatically renewable. Centro Cultural de Belém is reserved the right to refuse, or not to renew, whenever the cardholder will not respect the terms and regulations;
d) In case of loss or embezzlement of the reader card, the reader will have to inform immediately the FCCB; the issuing of a second card comprises the payment of a tax (attached table);
e) The library catalogue is available for search/consultation through a digital catalogue that might be accessed using the computers located in the welcome zone of the Reading Room.
f) Search/consultation can be made through several search criterions; the reader may request help to the room employees.
g) The reader may request a maximum of three books, through the filling of a form. Whenever devolution is made, you may request another book;
h) The reader is responsible for the requested book, from reception to devolution; exchanges of books between readers are not allowed.
i) The reader must communicate the room employee any anomalies he might detect, either in the books or equipments;
j) The reader must return the requested books whenever he leaves the room for periods up to 30 minutes.
k) Book requests can only be made until 6:15pm;
l) Books must be delivered until 10 minutes before the closing of the room;
m) It is possible to request books for the next day, through the filling of a form;
n) It is not allowed to enter in the Reading Room with the following items:
1) books, magazines, copies, photos, CDs and DVDs which do not belong to the room’s catalogue;
2) bags, purses, briefcases, folders, suitcases, packs, umbrellas, or other objects that might be considered dangerous;
3) cameras, audio equipment and similars;
4) food and beverages;
o) All the items mentioned above must be deposited in a proper place;
p) The room employee may authorize, exceptionally, the entrance of documents or other material essential to the research;
q) It is not allowed to use cellular phones in the room;
r) It is allowed the use of personal laptops. However, liability for loss or damage is of their owners’ fully responsibility;
s) Due to security reasons, the Reading Room has a security camera system.
Internet Point
The Reading Room has 4 computers available for internet searching, as follows:
a) The user shall guarantee the correct use of the provided equipment, and shall inform forthwith the employee on any detected failure or deficiency;
b) It is only allowed the use of one computer per reader;
c) Whenever the searched contents contain sound records, it is necessary the use of headphones, available at the Room reception;
d) If there are no points available, the user can apply to enter in a waiting list;
e) Each user can use the points for a 30 minutes maximum period, renewable if no other users are on the waiting list;
f) The information search on the Internet should be used only in the search for contents related with the Reading Room thematic areas. The release of the point for other users on the waiting list shall be requested whenever others uses are observed;
g) The room may use information filters; information about the filters is available to the users;
h) Internet use can be monitored, if needed;
i) The access to Internet content is of the user’s responsibility; the room has the right to cease the access if the laws in force are violated;
j) It is not allowed to change the access settings or other elements on the computers;
k) The user can use the printing service, and a tax will apply when using this service (attached table);
l) The user can only use the CD-ROM acquired in the Reading Room.
