Inaugurated in March 2007 with a scarce bibliographic collection, the CCB’s Reading Room (Jorge de Sena Room) grew fast, becoming a meeting point for reading and studying.

2008 closed with 1. 413 new readers, i.e., twice the 2007 inscriptions. In what concerns to the effective occupation, the room held 7 919 attendances during the 290 days on which it was open, representing an annual occupancy rate of 82,40%.

The increase in demand - which duplicated in the second year - made possible the home loaning system, whilst increased the room’s capacity and extended the opening hours.

The room holds 40 seats, a cyber area with 4 computers, a newspaper reading area (free admission).

The Fundação Centro Cultural de Belém (FCCB) may change the Reading Room opening hours, according to conference cycles or other events’ needs.
