The Piano series that Belém Cultural Centre will present during the 2011/2012 Season consists of six recitals in which great pianists of the international scene alternate with those not so well known but that are trying to reverse that condition.
Under an intimate ambiance offered by the Small Auditorium - Eduardo Prado Coelho Room, these recitals will enable the public to listen to works of various composers - from Haydn to Stravinsky, through Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Debussy, Prokofiev, among others - in a rare intimate contact with the artists.
After performing two concerts in the festival Music Days in Belém 2011, Louis Lortie will open the series with a very special programme: the integral of Années de Pèlerinage by Franz Liszt. In January 2012 will be the turn of Alexandre Tharaud, one of the most respected of today French pianists, making his debut at CCB with a programme around Debussy and Chopin.
Then it’s the turn of Stephen Kovacevich to return to CCB with a dedicated programme around Beethoven and Schubert, two composers of which he is one of the foremost worldwide experts.
In April we will welcome again the Turkish pianist Fazil Say - whose relationship with CCB is now very long - for a fascinating programme mixing Haydn, Prokofiev and Zimmermann, among others.
You must not miss the last concert of this series as well, which will have the responsibility of the young Russian pianist Anna Vinnitskaya, winner of the the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition in 2007, and making her debut in Portugal in CCB.
