The LJSS Jazz Summer Course will be tutored by the musicians of Mulgrew Miller & Wingspan and is open to jazz students and musicians of all nationalities with ages over 16. It is an intensive jazz course for medium and advanced levels, in which the participants will have the unique opportunity to live one week with the dynamics of an internationally prestiged jazz sextet. JAZZ COURSE FOR BEGINNING LEVELS

In parallel, the LJSS will have a course for beginning levels, the Férias com Jazz. This is a course for 30 music students with ages between 12 and 15. It consists of one summer week tutored by Portuguese jazz musicians, with classes of improvisation, instrument, combo and Big Band, among other musical activities of initiation to the jazz language. One summer week tutored by Portuguese jazz musicians, with classes of improvisation, instrument, combo and Big Band, among other musical activities of initiation to the jazz language.


Jam Sessions
The daily Jam Sessions from 22H to 01H, at the Cafetaria Quadrante will be the ideal complement to classes. Here the participants will have the opportunity to play with each other and with the LJSS teachers/musicians. The Jam Sessions have free entrance and are open to the general public.

In addition to daily classes, participants are encouraged to complement their instruction by attending and participating in jam sessions. Here they will have the opportunity to play with each other and with the LJSS teachers/musicians.

 
Closing Concerts
The last day will be of great emotions for the LJSS participants for they will be the stars of the Closing Concerts at the Small Auditorium of the CCB: at 18H, one concert by the participants of the Férias com Jazz; and at 21H, one concert by the participants of the Jazz Summer Course. Both concerts have free entrance, so all relatives, friends and jazz lovers can witness the talent of the 2008 LJSS musicians.

It is assumed that, when delivering the pre-inscription, the candidate has total knowledge of the LJSS Regulation for 2008 and accepts it entirely.

How to register

Pre-inscriptions
Pre-inscriptions are open until April 30.

The candidate’s pre-inscription is effective only after the following material has been delivered to the LJSS Commissariat:
* filled-in pre-inscription form;
* copy of the identity card (both sides) or passport of the candidate;
* copy of the identity card (both sides) or passport of the candidate’s responsible if he/she is a minor;
* motivation letter (under 150 words);
* musical curriculum (under 300 words);
* commercial record or demo of a musical performance of the candidate (facultative).

Selection
The selection of the candidates will be based on the following documents: pre-inscription form; motivation letter; musical curriculum; commercial record or demo of a musical performance of the candidate (facultative).

Between May 5 and May 30, the LJSS Commissariat will contact all candidates by email and/or by phone informing them whether they have or have not been selected to this year’s edition of LJSS. Enrollment is only allowed to candidates that have been contacted and selected to participate. Enrollment is not allowed to candidates that haven’t been contacted yet, as well as to candidates that haven’t been selected to participate.

Enrollment
The selected candidates can enroll between May 5 and June 30.
The enrollment in both LJSS courses is made through the payment of the totality of the fee, and is only considered complete when the candidate receives a written confirmation of that payment from the LJSS Commissariat.

Course Fees
Jazz Summer Course: 450, 00€ (VAT included)
Férias com Jazz: 250, 00€ (VAT included)

Both prices include the lunch of the participants from July 19 to 26.
These prices do not include trips, transportation, housing, and other meals besides lunch.

Among other payment methods, it will be possible to pay for the course by international bank transfer (IBAN, SWIFT/BIC). Detailed information on this and other payment methods will be provided later.

Cancellations
All cancellations must be made in writing, addressed to the LJSS Commissariat, and charges are as follows:
* refund of 100% of the fee if the registration is cancelled until May 30;
* refund of 50% of the fee if the registration is cancelled until June 16;
* no refund for cancellations after June 16.
