The Músicos do Tejo set off in search of the roots of the comic opera of the 18th century and stage an opera spoken for the most in Neapolitan dialect. A “local” opera written in a local context with scenes from the everyday life, set in a innovative movement where the Neapolitan composers brought to their music a new simplicity and melodic structure, including songs with a strong ethnic nature. The story of Lo Frate Nnamorato spins around two patriarchs: Carlo, a rich Roman bourgeois, and Marcaniello from Naples, and the marriages they negotiated. Carlo would engage with Lucrezia, Marcaniello’s daughter. The latter wanted for him and his son, D. Pietro, Carlo’s nieces, Nina and Nena. However, the plan is fruitless, as the three young girls are in love by Ascanio, Marcaniello’s young stepson.
