The ill-fated Opera House of the Paço da Ribeira, inaugurated in March 1755, was probably the only place to see the interpretation of Antigono, staged when the earthquake took place in November 1.
The libretto, written by Pietro Metastasio and considered by the composers of the time as the favorite one, tells the "strange disasters" that happen to Antigono, king of Macedonia, since he joins Berenice, Princess of Egypt. The score of Mazzoni, which now becomes to life with Divino Sospiro, had a work of critical edition by Nicholas McNair.
