The most notable example of the presence of this work at the cinema is the beautiful adaptation of Thomas Mann’s novel, Death in Venice, directed by Visconti in 1971. However, this major work by Mahler is much more than the well known Adagietto. It is a slow and rich journey, which leads us from the tragic atmosphere of the opening funeral march to the positive exhilaration of the final movement.
