Haydn – iconic composer of the classicism – wrote in 1785 the Trio Hob. XV No. 9 using for the first time a set of string instruments – violin and Cello – contrasting with the piano used so far. In turn, the inspired Trio op. 114 by the romantic Brahms uses three instruments from different families: piano, clarinet and cello. With quite different musical languages, Bartók and Hindemith are two of the most important composers of the 20th century. Contrasts by Bartók – trio for clarinet, violin and piano – is a unique work due to its instrumentation and reflects his original language, inspired by many intense folkloric researches. The Quartet for piano, clarinet, violin and cello by Hindemith is a magnificent work, composed in the same year of Contrasts by Bartók: 1938.
