The project Lift Off looks for the “secular equilibrium” achieved by the classical tradition, without losing the jazz identity and working on the development of the forms.
It is not by chance that the instrumentation of this quartet – somewhere between jazz and classical chamber music - is the same of Modern Jazz Quartet. However, in the Lift Off’s work it is clear the importance given to the compositions. Jeffry Davis, besides being an award-winning vibraphonist, is a renowned composer and concentrates in this formation the two approaches he has been developing, either in more explicit jazz formations, either in the fields of contemporary music. Marcelino Graça is one of the most promising pianists of his generation, and he is also a composer, author of many Lift Off’s scores. The rhythmic section composed by Cascais and Frazão is one of the most solid and skilled from the jazz national scene
