This is one of the highlights of CCB jazz season. Danilo Perez, Panamanian pianist and composer, was appointed this year Jazz Person of the Year 2010.
Although he collaborates regularly with musicians Wayne Shorter, Wynton Marsalis, Jack DeJohnette or Roy Haynes, Perez does not hide his origins – the scent of Latin jazz is pretty clear in his music.
In this concert, four musicians team up with the highly distinguished quintet leader of the current international jazz scene: Adam Cruz considered by many as the greatest expert in Latin jazz rhythms, and Ben Street, bassist who has played and recorded with Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ben Monder and Sam Rivers, the two musicians who compose, together with Perez, the Danilo Perez Trio. The Quintet will have the collaboration of Brazilian percussionist Roger Boccato, established in New York, who has already accompanied musicians, such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Hermeto Pascoal, Milton Nascimento, Egberto Gismonti; and Rudresh Mahanthappa, musician of Indian origins, elected in 2009 Rising Star-Alto Saxophone by Downbeat magazine, and also Alto Saxophonist of the Year by the Jazz Journalist Association.
This concert, which represents both the Lisbon Jazz Summer School opening concert and the CCB Inside Out Festival opening concert, has all the ingredients to provide the audience an unforgettable jazz evening.

“… but there are still amazing musicians – like Danilo Perez, who plays piano with Wayne Shorter’s quartet. He is not afraid of anything.”
