Indeed, 1994 and 1998 are two relevant dates in order to understand the grounds of this new initiative, 2008 – A PINA BAUSCH FESTIVAL:
1994 - Lisbon, European Capital of Culture: Jorge Salavisa, the dance consultant, brings to Lisbon great works by Pina Bausch, amongst them The Rite of Spring, Café Müller, Kontakthof, Viktor and 1980.
1998 - EXPO 98, Festival dos 100 Dias (100 Days Festival): António Mega Ferreira invites Pina Bausch for an artistic residence, culminating with the creation of a performance about Lisbon, Masurca Fogo.
The need to give continuity to initiatives that marked Lisbon as a place and as a source of inspiration in the artistic work of Pina Bausch was felt again. This will be a different festival. During one week, Pina Bausch and her company will perform almost simultaneously in the two halls, in a very close contact with the audience. The dancers will speak about their participations in the works and movies by Pina Bausch, telling the audience unknown stories about the creative process. We will also share with Peter Pabst his experience of 28 years stage set creation for Pina Bausch’s works; documentaries, film projections, photo exhibitions and talks will take place during the Festival.
