DOUBLES | 8 CONCERTS / 16 MUSICIANS
After the artistic success achieved in 2009, Doubles returns in 2010 for a brand new edition, featuring eight performances to be held every Thursday, from February to March. Doubles promotes the interaction between Portuguese and foreign jazz musicians, focusing on the quality of the performers, timbre variety and geographical diversity. Since its 1st edition, this cycle of performances has been a true lab for the art of duet in jazz, promoting new meetings of cultures and new audiences for jazz.

FESTIVAL BRIDGES TO ISTANBUL
Byzantium, Constantinople, Istanbul … the names evoke so many stages of the life of this city, whose development was crucial to the history of the Western world. Istanbul is the doorway to the East and the West door, a bridge between two worlds, between two civilisations, between two religions. It is the place where one experiences more intensively– like in Orhan Pamuk’s books, his Nobel Prize – the European desire and the moral and the intellectual struggles it awakens. The cycle BRIDGES TO ISTANBUL, conceived to coincide with the year in which Istanbul is European Capital of Culture, opens bridges for the understanding of this unique and exciting city.

A CHAT AND A CONCERT
If it’s true that music does not need to be explained, it is also true that the fruition of a musical work can be very enriched if one has the privilege to attend a concert sitting next to an expert.
The placing of a work in its age, the composer's lifetime when it was composed, a true story or a story created around it, the person to whom it was dedicated, a call for attention to a detail in a instrument or a detail on the work’s architecture are some of the sides that might sublimate deeply our listening.
