Bach’s Lessons - IV
This year the Music Days in Belém relies on a new project – Bach’s Lesson – a CCB production in collaboration with the National Agency for the Qualification and with the Ministry of Education.
The mission of Bach’s Lessons competition, in the context of the Portuguese musical scene, is to give music school’s students - coming from diverse regions of the country - the opportunity of performing during the Music Days in Belém, the classical music Festival with greater visibility in Portugal.
In this 1st edition of Bach’s Lessons, music schools’ students, aged 10 to 22 years, coming from diverse regions of the country, from Algarve to Trás-os-Montes, will stage at the CCB, selected through a preliminary audition by a panel of three juries.
The premiere of this project named Bach’s Lessons acquires its whole meaning when related with the Music Days in Belém’s 2009 theme - one of the major Johann Sebastian Bach’s legacies was the huge number of pedagogical pieces he wrote throughout his lifetime; 250 years after they represent a milestone for any young instrumentalist or composer.
Along six concerts at the Amália Rodrigues Room, we will have the opportunity to listen to a very diverse repertoire, featured by some of the youngest and most gifted musicians from our country: from soloists to small orchestras, from piano to mandolin, from the work by Johann Sebastian Bach to small pieces by young students composers, who also participated in this competition with works by their own, having Bach as a source of inspiration.
